Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: I want to donate books and sell some books to you, what should I do?

A: Please select the option within the survey that best suits the majority of your books but mention in the notes that you also have some you'd like to donate. For extra clarity, you might also submit two seperate forms.  We will get back to you on which parts of the collection we'd be willing to purchase, and which we can pick up as donations. 

Q: Is there a limit to what and how much you're willing to take?

A: No limit to the collection size, if you had a whole library we'd find a way to take it off your hands. As for what we're willing to take, we consider a wide variety and can usually be found picking up cookbooks, vintage novels, technical manuals, textbooks, childrens, historical, etc. When in doubt please send some photos! We handle research! 

Q: Is there anything you don't take?

A: We generally can't accept books with heavy staining, water, or smoke damage, mold, missing pages, heavy wear, tears, or books that are in otherwise poor condition. We may also pass on large quantities of very common, or heavily mass produced recent titles. However, age, edition or subject matter can make a book far more interesting to us, so if you have an inkling that it might be worth while, please send pictures anyways! A photo of a copyright page especially.

Q: How far outside of Albuquerque are you willing to travel? 

A: Our primary service is directed toward the ABQ, Santa Fe, and surrounding New Mexico communities. For larger, specialized, or particularly interestng collections, we're willing to travel considerably farther. So don't assume you're too far away. Send us some photos and info about the collection and we'll see if we can make the trip!

Q: How quickly will you answer after the form is submitted? 

A: We usually respond within 24-48 hours after recieving a pickup request. If your collection looks like a good fit, we will contact you to discuss the books and work out the next steps.

Q: Do you handle Estate/Inherited book collections? 

A: Yes. We love to help with inherited, large personal libraries, and specialized and or estate collections. Sorting through a lifetime collection can be overwhelming. Please let us help you. There's no need to do research on the collection before contacting us. Pictures and some basic information like, size, and general genre or age information are wonderful, but regardless we'll work with you to relieve some of the stress.

Q: Is book pick up really free? 

A: Yes! Any approved pickups are free. Once we've reviewed your pickup request, and agreed to pick up the collection, there is no pickup charge. We'll arrange a convenient time and handle the loading. At no cost to you.

Q: Do you buy books? 

A: We do purchase some books and collections! Not every book is of financial interest to us, and some collections may be better for donatng. However, photos allow us to get a better idea of what you have and what we might be willing to buy, before arranging a pickup. If you're interested in selling books, make sure to select, "sell to us" in the pick up form, and add a note if you'd like to donate as well.

Q: I'm having difficulty uploading a video file through the form, can I link to an unlisted video? 

A: Yes, if you have a large collection, a video with your bookshelves or showing the boxes, can be very helpful. If the video is too large to upload through the form (more than 40MB or longer than 15 seconds) please provide a link to an unlisted video in the additional notes section of the form. Some have used google drive, or YouTube for hosting their videos, please just make sure that we have a link that grants us full access to view.

Q:  How will I know it's you when you arrive? 

A: We will call or text you before we arrive for your scheduled pickup. You'll know when to expect us and that it's ABQ Book Pickup arriving for the collection. If there are more details necessary for your comfort, let us know when we reach out to you!

Q:  Are my books valuable?

A: We'll let you know! Books vary in value for many reasons, and thankfully you don't need to be an expert to contact us. Older doesn't automatically mean valuable, and sometimes books that don't look particularly special can be desirable. It's best practice to send us clear photos of your shelves, boxes, or collection, and we can help you determine if we might be a good fit!

Q:  Do the books need to be boxed?

A: No. If the books are already boxed, that's great, but they don't necessarily need to be boxed before we arrive. If they're still on bookshelves, just let us know when you submit your request. Photos of the shelves can be one of the easiest ways for us to evaluate a collection.

Q:  How many books do I need for a pickup?

A: There is no one fixed minimum because it depends on the books and your location. A smaller collection of specialized or desirable books may make sense for us to pick up, while a collection of very common books may need to be larger. Send us a few photos and tell us approximately how many books you have.

Q:  Do you accept textbooks and CDs, DVDs and other media?

A: Yes. We consider textbooks along with CDs, DVDs, magazines, and other types of media and printed material. Let us know what else you have when you submit your pickup request and include photos when possible.

Q:  Are you ready to clear out your books?

A: Whether you're downsizing, handing an estate, clearing out an inherited library, or simply have books you no longer need, we'd be happy to take a look. Send us a few photos and tell us what you have!
